Australian Volunteer Coastguard

The Australian Volunteer Coastguard is a Volunteer Marine Rescue organisation that established a branch in Darwin in 2010 with Byron Calvert as the Flotilla Commander. It initially obtained the Arafura Guardian but it was decommissioned in 2012 and in 2013 replaced with the Noosa Cat 'Keppel Sands'.

VMRs assist the Water Police with their Search and Rescue responsibilities as well as conducting recovery operations, manning marine safety communications networks and promoting water safety.

The AVC is based at the Trailer Boat Club.

VMRs are volunteer organisations and rely on community support to ensure the best possible response capability.
