Bombing of Darwin

From Citation - December 2005 The Following is an Extract from the Commonwealth Gazette No. 170 Dated 5th August 1943. Government House, CANBERRA. 30th July, 1943. THE KING has been graciously pleased to approve of the following award for courageous conduct and devotion to duty at Darwin:- BRITISH EMPIRE MEDAL (CIVIL DIVISION). Constable Eric Arthur McNab, Northern Territory Police Force. Constable McNab proceeded to the Post Office which had received a direct hit and rendered good service in recovering the wounded from the debris and removing the dead. During raids and for some time afterwards he displayed courage and devotion to duty until finally it was found necessary for him to enter hospital suffering from war neuritis.
