1985 - 1995, Mr Stinky (rapist)

Responsible for a series of sexual assaults in Darwin starting in 1985 and continuing several years. Another series of offences in 1994 and 1995 were also believed to be linked. It is believed that the MO was to follow women or couples home from night clubs. Detective Les Chapman was involved in a number of these investigations. The reason for his strong odour was unknown. It may be because of riding a pushbike or running in order to track the victims to their houses. The NT case is not related to the Victorian 'Mr Stinky' case in the 1960s. Media reported that a possible suspect had left Australia but the matter was not pursued further.
